Karen Grace is a mother and currently serves as the Vice President of Regions and Local Units and is a dedicated advocate for children’s issues, having been involved in PTA as early as her own childhood. She is also a dedicated Boys Scout volunteer and troop leader.
Dr. Nancy Lawther is a passionate advocate for children, with a flair for legislative analysis and years of experience speaking out on educational issues.
A native Pennsylvanian, Dr. Lawther spent 30 years as a college French professor, and now teaches for OLLI at the University of Miami. She was galvanized into action on behalf of public K-12 education in 2010 after watching several broadcasts of Florida Legislative hearings. Horrified that bills that ignored children’s best interests passed easily, with barely a word of protest from elected officials, she was nonetheless inspired by the success of PTA leaders, including former MDCC Presidents Eileen Segal and Mindy Gould, in defending the rights of children.
Dr. Lawther has been a PTA member since 1997, and has served as the Legislative Chair of MDCC. She was elected as MDCC 3rd Vice President of Education in April 2017.
